This image shows sections of a large, painted backdrop (acrylics on canvas) for Mystic River, that I painted when I worked as scenic artist. Scenic artists use unique techniques developed for films to create huge paintings under tight time schedules. The results are usually loosely painted and spattered, from close view almost abstract looking backdrops, that - when compressed into the film frame - should hold up very well.
