‘Rebuilt City’ is a promotional piece I created a few years ago. First I used Google SketchUp® to model the building with the faceted sphere on top. Back then it was the only 3D modeling application I used (and knew), but there were no rendering capabilities. I used it to create a simple, shaded wireframe model of the building to paint on top of it. Other than that I made the whole painting up, drawing from my experience of painting architecture.
