This painting is very wide (you can scroll left and right). It was used as background image for the fight scenes on Iwo Jima. Thanks to its length (the original was 18'000 pixels wide - but I cropped it on both sides for this page), it could be reused by showing only sections of it for different shots, or by wrapping it around a scene. Flags Of Our Fathers was shot in Iceland and had a lot of visual effects in it to make it look like Iwo Jima. In the foreground you can still see the original photographs of the volcanic soil of Iceland before it tapers off into the completely painted background with hills, shrubs and craters.
